TERRITORIAL COMMMAND: THE FIRST REGIONAL GOVERNORS ARE APPOINTED E-mail
The President of the Republic on Friday 5 February 2010, signed Decree No. 2010/040 to appoint Regional Governors. It is an important instrument in the sense that it concretizes the administrative reorganization of the State into Regions, in lieu and place of Provinces, in conformity with Decree No. 2008/376 of 12 November 2008 on the administrative organization of the Republic of Cameroon.  This Decree conforms to Decree No.2008/377 still of 12 November 2008 to determine the powers of heads of administrative units and to lay down the organization and functioning of their services.

The Regions, which are thus receiving their pioneer senior administrators, are administrative entities which should not be confused with regional and local authorities whose implementation is methodically going on.

A rapid analysis of the presidential Decree gives room for some remarks. All the appointed persons are senior officials who have served long enough as territorial command personnel. Being ENAM graduates, they all have the rank of Senior Civil Administrator.

As a reform, all Governors shall be installed shortly in their functions including those of Littoral, East and North West Regions who were previously Provincial Governors of the same administrative units transformed into Regions. Also, six out of ten former Provincial Governors retain their positions as Regional Governors. This expresses the double concern for stability and renewal.

The Governors thus appointed shall play an important role in the intensification of the decentralization process which takes a decisive turn in 2010 with the start of the devolution of powers and resources to councils and city councils.

As a reminder, the new Regional Governors are Messrs Enow Abrams Egbe for Adamawa Region, Eyene Nlom Roger Moïse for the Centre Region, Lele Lafrique Deben Tchoffo Adolphe for the East Region, Beti Assomo Joseph for the Far North Region, Faï Yengo Francis for the Littoral Region, Gambo Haman for the North Region, Abakar Ahamat for the North West Region, Ivaha Diboua Samuel Dieudonné for the West Region, Ndjaga Jules Marcellin for the South Region and Koumpa Issa for the South West Region.
