The Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Marafa Hamidou Yaya, was before Members of Parliament last Saturday, 5 December 2009. He was defending, before the entire House, the bill on local taxation.

The said bill determines taxes, duties and royalties to be levied in favour of regional and local authorities.
Pending its enactment by the President of the Republic, it could be validly stated that the implementation of the enhancement process has reached a decisive stage for its implementation.
Regional and local authorities shall henceforth have a relevant legal framework to collect revenue. The rest will depend on the personal drive of local elected officials.
